Best Convertible Cribs

Ikea Sundvik Convertible Crib

  • Crib dimension: 54 3/8 ” L x 29 7/8 ” W X 34 5/8 ” H
  • Conversion Kit: All Included
  • Mattress: Not Included

Ikea cribs are so far, the number one most recommended convertible cribs by a lot, and I mean, A LOT of parents.

It’s mostly because of the brand’s reputation and how affordable their cribs are.

This Ikea Sundvik is one of their bestsellers that can convert from a traditional crib to a toddler bed.

Take a look at this video to see how it converts to a toddler bed:

The conversion kit is included but not the mattress and bed linen FYI, so you have to buy that separately.

A few parents mentioned that its top headboard and footboard seem a bit flimsy, especially when their very active 1-year-olds are moving so much inside the crib.

But for most parents, they didn’t really have a problem with it.

Some have even used it for more than 6 years and have been as sturdy as before, even when converted into a toddler bed.

Some even mentioned using it for their 2nd babies!

The only other major issue I always notice about Ikea cribs is that they’re always sold out. This is understandable, given that they’re very affordable for the quality.

Nestig The Wave 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

  • Mini crib assembled: 31 in L x 24.5 in W x 31.5 in H
  • Full crib assembled: 54.3 in L x 31 in W x 31.5 in H
  • Toddler bed assembled: 54.3 in L x 31 in W x 29 in H
  • Conversion Kit: Included
  • Mattress: Only the mini crib mattress (full crib mattress not included)

This is another popular convertible crib that’s more in the pricey range.

It’s considered a “boujie” purchase, but if you have the budget for it, why not!

The Nestig crib is a sought-after crib not only for its gorgeous design but also for its convertibility. You can use this as a mini crib and then turn it into a full crib and a toddler bed!

It also comes with wheels so you can move this around your house easily.

Check out below how easy it is to convert the Nestig mini crib into a full crib, without any power tools:

Then this is how you convert that full crib into a toddler bed:

It’s everything you need in a crib!

Well almost as it’s not a perfect convertible crib.

There are still some complaints about one of its sides breaking out of nowhere, that it’s wobbly, delays in shipping, and such.

And that can be really disappointing, given that it’s quite an expensive convertible crib!

But for most parents, they haven’t had any issues with it.

babyletto Yuzu Convertible All-Stages

  • Bassinet (29.75”L x 19.75”W x 30.75”H)
  • Midi crib, midi toddler, midi daybed (37.5”L x 29.75”W x 30.75”H)
  • Crib, toddler bed, daybed, junior bed (53.8″L x 29.8″W x 32.6″H)
  • Conversion Kit: All included
  • Mattress: Only the bassinet pad and midi pad (full-size crib mattress not included)

This crib is not as popular (yet) as the Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 Convertible Crib. But I have a feeling this will surpass even the Nestig The Wave crib for its slightly cheaper price and functionality.

The Babyletto Uzu crib is really giving the all-in-one feels. It can be converted into a bassinet, midi crib, midi toddler bed, midi daybed, full-size crib, full toddler bed, full daybed, and junior bed!

Check out how easy it converts to a toddler bed here:

And best of all, it includes all the conversion kits, hardware, and parts, plus a 1” bassinet pad & custom 2” midi pad!

It also has wheels and has 4 height mattress levels for the bassinet and midi, and 3 mattress height levels for the full-size crib.

It’s also Greenguard Gold certified and of course, exceeds ASTM and US CPSC safety standards.

Of course, there’s no perfection on earth (other than puppies), so there are a few complaints about the Yuzu crib which includes having a hard, thin bassinet mattress and a low bassinet height level.

But other than that, most parents love it!

So if you want a cheaper Nestig Wave crib version, this is the perfect alternative for it!

Namesake Winston 4-in-1 Convertible Metal Crib

  • Crib dimension: 54.88″L x 30.5″W x 45.5″H
  • Conversion Kits: All sold separately
  • Mattress: Not included

The Namesake Winston is a Greenguard Gold-certified crib that can easily convert into a toddler bed, daybed, and full-size bed.

This has 4 adjustable mattress height levels so it can accommodate your growing baby.

It’s a metal bed, mind you, that’s made from non-toxic, premium materials, with traditional metal casting and curves that give it a vintage charm.

It’s a gorgeous, solid, durable, easy-to-assemble crib but some parents are not happy with how they needed to buy separately its conversion kits.

Which can be more expensive than one expects.

It can almost cost you almost a thousand dollars for the crib and all the conversion kits!

Nevertheless, for those parents who bought the conversion kits along with the crib, it has been worth it since they were able to convert it easily, with no issues.

For them, it was a worthy investment as they didn’t need to research, shop around, and buy another bed for their child.

Here’s another awesome Namesake convertible crib if you want to check it out.

Storkcraft Hillcrest 4-in-1 Convertible Crib

  • Dimensions: Overall34” H X 54.72” L X 30.71” W, Clearance – Floor to Bottom 7.44” H, Distance Between Slats2” W, Overall Product Weight 41.2 lb.
  • Crib dimensions width (54.72 inches) x depth (30.71 inches) x height (34 inches) x weight 41.2 lbs)
  • Conversion Kits: All sold separately
  • Mattress: Not included

The Storkcraft is an award-winning brand of the 2022 Women’s Choice Award and has the Parent Tested Parent Approved (PTPA) Seal of Approval.

It’s also ASTM, CPSIA, and JPMA certified, ensuring that it’s safe for your little ones.

This Storkcraft Hillcrest in particular can convert from a baby crib to a toddler bed, daybed, and full-sized bed.

It also has a 3 adjustable crib mattress height level, with a maximum height of 35in (89cm) (or when your kid is attempting to climb out of it).

I also saw some comments about it being great for short parents so I’m gonna add this soon to my best cribs for short moms.

I digress.

This crib is sturdy and durable and easy to assemble.

Some parents have even used this for their multiple kids for 8 years and have converted it from a crib to a toddler bed several times with no issue.

The only issue I see with this crib is it can be pretty low.

So if you and your spouse are tall, you might find it a bit uncomfortable to keep bending down to get and lay down your baby.

I would also highly recommend getting the conversion kits along with the crib, as some may be out of stock when you decide to convert the crib.

Other than that, it’s an awesome convertible crib!

Delta Children Essex 4-in-1 Convertible Baby Crib

  • Crib Dimensions: 54″ (width) x 34″ (height) x 29.5″ (depth)
  • Conversion Kits: All sold separately
  • Mattress: Included (in this particular link only)

The Delta brand is a popular, well-regarded baby furniture brand amongst parents looking for a quality, yet affordable crib.

This Delta Children Essex in particular can convert into a toddler bed, daybed, and sofa bed.

And this model comes with a mattress so you don’t need to get one!

But you can opt not to get the mattress bundle. Delta recommends getting a Serta or even a Beautyrest crib mattress if you prefer.

It’s also JPMA certified and exceeds ASTM safety standards and has 3 mattress height levels for your growing child.

A lot of parents are disappointed to learn that the conversion kits don’t come with purchasing this convertible crib.

As the crib and mattress bundle is really affordable!

But yeah, usually for convertible cribs, their conversion kits are sold separately, which can really suck as you have to pay more than you’re expecting.

There are a few more complaints about the paint chipping and babies’ legs getting stuck in the crib railings

But most parents love this Delta Essex crib for its durability and affordable price.

Buying Guide: Best Convertible Baby Cribs

Here’s what you should consider when choosing the best convertible cribs:

  • Price and Budget

Set a budget for your crib purchase and find options that fit within your price range. Remember to balance cost with quality and durability to make a wise investment.

  • Convertibility Options

Check the crib’s convertibility options and determine how many stages it can transition through. Cribs that can convert from a standard crib to a toddler bed, daybed, and even a full-size bed, are ideal to have, providing longevity and value for your investment.

  • Conversion Kit

Make sure that the conversion kits are easy to purchase and are readily available. I would highly recommend buying all the conversion kits from the get-go (when you purchase the crib), as in some cases, they can stop producing the specific conversion kits for that particular crib brand/ type.

But if your budget doesn’t permit it or you don’t have the space to keep the conversion kits, just make sure to ask if universal conversion kits can be used instead.

  • Materials

Consider the materials used in the crib’s construction. Look for solid, durable materials such as hardwood or metal that can withstand the test of time. Check also if they easily break or damage, as they might not last that long or stay safe enough to be converted into a toddler bed or even a junior bed.

  • Safety Standards

Ensure that the crib meets or exceeds the safety standards set by organizations like the ASTM, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and even the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). It’s also ideal to have the Greenguard certificate on a convertible crib. Look for features such as fixed-side rails, proper spacing between slats, and sturdy construction. Avoid cribs with harmful chemicals or toxic finishes as well, that could pose a risk to your child’s health.

  • Ease of Conversion

Evaluate how easy it is to convert the crib from one stage to another. Some cribs may require additional conversion kits or tools, while others offer a more straightforward conversion process.

  • Mattress Adjustability

Check if the crib offers adjustable mattress heights. This feature allows you to lower the mattress as your baby grows, ensuring their safety by preventing them from climbing out when they become more mobile.

FAQ: Best Convertible Baby Cribs

Is it better to get a convertible crib?

It’s better to get a convertible crib IF you have the budget for it upfront, and you can pay for all the conversion kits for it, along with the crib itself. It’s also better if you have the space to keep the conversion kits.

How long can a child use a convertible crib?

A child can use a convertible crib until they’re more or less 3 years old or when they’re starting to climb out of the crib already, whichever comes first.

Tips on Having Convertible Cribs

  • Get all conversion kits

You never know when the kits will run out of stock or when they’ll stop producing them, so I highly recommend getting all the conversion kits with the crib.

  • Reserve some space

If you’re planning to get all the conversion kits, take note that you need some space for them. So better plan to keep it in an area or room or storage in your house, where it won’t be easily damaged or played with by your kids.

  • Unbox and assemble asap

If possible, try to assemble it the minute it’s delivered. So you can see if there are any damaged or missing pieces.

  • Assemble the other beds

Once you get it, if possible, try to also convert the crib into a toddler bed, junior bed, or whatever comes with your convertible crib. So you can test it out and see if something doesn’t fit or look right and you can call the manufacturers and ask for a replacement.
