Uppababy Vista vs Baby Jogger City Select

Convertible Strollers

They are both convertible or expandable strollers – they can transform from a single stroller to a double stroller and vice versa.

Both can seat a newborn or twins or toddler + newborn or 3 toddlers!

If you want to seat 2 toddlers for the Uppababy Vista V2, you’ll need the Rumbleseat.

For carrying a 3rd toddler on the Uppababy Vista V2, there’s the PiggyBack Ride-Along Board which you can also attach to the back of the stroller and can carry up to 55 lbs.

Just an additional info – aside from its bassinet, you can also use the Uppababy Vista V2‘s toddler seat for newborns with the Infant SnugSeat accessory (sold separately).

For the City Select LUX, if you have 1 toddler and a bigger kid, get a Bench Seat for the bigger kid, which can accommodate a child up to 65 lbs.

For seating 2 toddlers in the City Select LUX, you can buy a separate Second Seat.

If you have 3 toddlers, you can get the Baby Jogger Glider Board for the City Select Lux for the 3rd kid, which has weight limit of 45 lbs.

Dimensions and Specifications

Things to Consider

This is one of the most important things that you should consider – the dimensions and specifications of the strollers.

Because they have to fit in your lifestyle and literally, in your door. You need to consider the size of your door and the usual entryway and passageways that you go through every day.

You also need to consider the size of your trunk and how your preferred stroller will fit in it along with other items. If you have a large SUV or minivan, then you don’t really need to worry about fitting in a double stroller.

But if you have a smaller car, you have to think about your trunk space. Measure its width and depth. See if you can fit the double stroller there, with at least a few shopping bags.

Consider also the number of times you need to load the stroller in and out of the car – how heavy and annoying will it be to fold it multiple times a day. Do you need it for traveling or will it be too heavy and inconvenient to bring on flights?

You also need to think about how you mostly spend your time, while using the strollers. Do you usually visit cramped, crowded spaces? Do you go walk and hike in rough terrains?

Now I’ve been looking around the internet, reading different articles and websites for specific dimensions and specifications of these 2 strollers (so you don’t have to), as I find the information on their own websites too limiting.

So here are the things you need to know about the Uppababy Vista vs City Select specs, to help you decide and consider how it would suit your lifestyle

Box Includes

The Uppababy Vista V2 includes the Stroller Frame, Toddler seat with Bumper Bar, Bassinet, Wheels and Toddler Seat Bug & Rain Shield.

The Baby Jogger City Select LUX Double Stroller, on the other hand, includes the Stroller Frame, 2nd seat and the mounting brackets for the 2nd seat.

Safety

Harness

Both have a 5 point stroller seat harness, including shoulder pads and buckle cover, ensuring your baby or kid’s safety and comfort.

The Uppababy Vista V2 though, has a no-rethread harness, which allows you to adjust the straps without unhooking and moving the straps.

Brakes

The Uppababy Vista V2 comes with a foot brake. It’s easy to step on to engage or release, no matter what shoes or slippers you’re wearing.

The Baby Jogger City Select LUX Double Stroller has a hand brake.

pic from Baby Jogger website

Other parents describe it as like a brake in a bike. It sits on the right side of the frame, allowing you to squeeze slightly to decelerate for downhill control or to put the stroller in complete park.

Some parents hate the hand break of the City Select LUX, saying that it pinches their hand or its difficult to use. Others also didn’t like that they can’t put an organizer, as the hand brake is oddly placed on the right side.

Some parents though, like the placement of the hand brake because of its safety measures – their toddlers won’t be able to unlock it.

Lock

You can easily check if the lock is engaged with the City Select Double LUX Double Stroller‘s hand lock.

Other double strollers lock at the bottom and if you forget to lock them, there might be some not-so-good consequences.

You also have the option of locking the front two wheels with the City Select Lux Double stroller. This can make the stroller less maneuverable, but more stable when you are running or walking down a street.

The Uppababy Vista V2, on the other hand, has a wheel lock paddle on the rear tire, which easily locks when pressed on. You can also lock the front wheels, to prevent it from turning and only allowing it to go straight.

Wheels

Both the Baby Jogger City Select vs Uppababy Vista have front-locking wheels, which can keep the wheels from swiveling. That adds stability, especially when plowing through uneven surfaces.

Both strollers have also a suspension system, which absorbs stress.  It allows a less bumpy ride for your kid and/or less waking up time from your baby.

Both can handle dirt roads, ice, snow, pumpkin patch and gravel driveway. The smoothness of the ride though, depends on the weight of your child and the amount of dirt or how rough the terrain is.

Some have said that they had a hard time pushing City Select LUX‘s front wheels from grass to sidewalk.

Just to be clear though, both of these strollers are not meant for jogging. So please, don’t jog with these, there are specific strollers for that.

Reversible Toddler Seat

Both Uppababy Vista vs City Select offer reversible toddler seats, which allow your kid to ride facing you or the world, in a reclined, upright or in between position.

Seat Configurations

City Select LUX: 20 seat configurations:

Uppababy Vista 13 seat configurations:

city select double stroller vs uppababy vista_2
  • One infant car seat
  • One bassinet
  • Toddler seat facing parent
  • Toddler seat facing forward
  • Toddler seat facing parent, RumbleSeat facing forward
  • Toddler seat and RumbleSeat facing parent
  • Toddler seat and RumbleSeat facing forward
  • Infant car seat and RumbleSeat facing parent (requires upper adapter)
  • Infant car seat facing parent, RumbleSeat facing forward (requires upper adapter)
  • Infant car seat on lower position; toddler seat facing parent
  • Two infant car seats (requires upper and lower adapters)
  • Bassinet and toddler seat facing parent (requires lower adapter)
  • Two bassinets (requires upper and lower adapters)

The City Select Lux Double stroller allows kids to face each other. The second seat is positioned on top of the front wheels, creating more space for both seats, unlike the Vista V2.

Some say that Uppababy Vista V2‘s second seat behind the front wheels still offers better maneuverability, as it allows the wheel to turn more freely.

Car Seats Compatibility

Both UPPAbaby and Baby Jogger manufacture their own infant car seats. That can be convenient for first-time parents, who want to buy both a stroller and a car seat, at the same time.

Uppababy Vista V2

  • The UPPAbaby MESA infant car seat attaches directly to the frame of the VISTA stroller without the need for a car seat adapter.
  • Other car seats compatible with the Uppababy Vista V2 that needs car seat adapters are:
  • Chicco® KeyFit® 35, KeyFit® 30, KeyFit® 30 Zip, KeyFit® 30 Zip Air, Fit2®, Fit2® LE, Fit2® Air
  • Maxi-Cosi® Mico Max 30, Mico NXT, Mico AP & Mico Max Plus,
  • Nuna® PIPA™, PIPA lite, PIPA lite lx, PIPA lite r & PIPA rx,
  • Cybex Aton, Aton 2, Aton Q & Aton M

Baby Jogger City Select LUX Double Stroller

  • For the City Select LUX stroller, you need to purchase adapters to attach it to the Baby Jogger’s car seat, the City GO.
  • Other car seats compatible with the City Select LUX, that needs car seat adapters are:

  • Nuna Pipa Car Seat

  • Cybex Aton, Cybex Aton Q
  • Maxi Cosi Max 30, Maxi Cosi Mico AP
  • Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 4-35

To configure for two car seats, the second seat for the stroller must be purchased in advance as the second seat mounting brackets are required to support the second car seat.

Adjustable Handlebar

Both the Uppababy Vista vs Baby Jogger City select have telescoping handlebars, which is just industry talk for adjustable handlebar.

It’s a great feature to have for parents of varying heights. Both tall dads or short moms can push the strollers and use them comfortably, even if the seat is in an inclined position.

The Uppababy Vista V2’s handlebar is a little fancier, as it’s leather-covered, compared to the City Select LUX’s rubberized, plastic handlebar.

Some have complained that the shortest setting for the City Select LUX is still too high for petite moms, making it hard on their backs.

Large Storage

The Baby Jogger City Select LUX Double Stroller and the Uppababy Vista V2 have both massive, easy-to-access storage baskets, making it effortless to reach for diapers, toys, bottles, etc.

Some parents even used their stroller baskets for grocery shopping, instead of a cart! So that gives you an idea of how big the basket capacity is for both these strollers.

Vista V2’s has a bigger capacity though at 30 lbs, which is larger than most stroller baskets.

While City Select LUX has a 15lbs weight allowance. But even though it’s smaller, it has a stretchy back pocket to squeeze in other items.

Another extra from the City Select LUX is that it has mesh pockets with elastic tops at the back of each seat. That’s extra storage for parents!

You can put in diapers, water bottles, and any other essentials.

One little thing that some parents complained about the City Select LUX’s basket though is that you have to pull down the stretch back pocket, to reach in the basket.

Some have also mentioned that it’s not easy to reach inside the basket underneath when the seat is facing outward, not towards the parents.

Sun Shade

Both have an extendable, height-adjustable canopy that can accommodate your growing children while protecting them from the sun.

The Vista V2’s canopy unzips at the back for additional airflow. The City Select LUX has a peek-a-boo, mesh window so you can quickly check up on your kid.

One-Handed Recline

Both strollers have a one-handed multi-position recline. This allows an easy and quick adjusting of the seat of kids, from lying down for naps or sitting upright when awake.

Maintenance

Both strollers are relatively easy to clean and if taken care of properly, can last for a really long time. Some even have theirs for 6 years and counting and it still works A-ok! Which can be great if you want to sell the strollers.

Cleaning an Uppababy Vista V2 involves removing its seat fabric for spot cleaning or hand washing in cold water with mild detergent. Just don’t bleach, iron or dry clean.

The stroller frame can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent as well. It’s highly recommended to not leave the stroller in direct sunlight, store it outside or store in a damp environment, to extend the life of it’s fabric.

Click here to see how to remove and clean the Uppababy Vista’s wheels: https://tuneup.uppababy.com/clean-remove-wheels-on-vista/

Regularly check and inspect it’s other parts as well, especially if it seems squeaky, wobbly and unstable. Go only to an authorized dealer for repairs. Click here to find a Tune-UP Gear-UP event near you for additional maintenance services.

Cleaning a City Select LUX Double Stroller is a little easier, as you can machine wash its stroller seat in cold water with a mild detergent.

Just make sure to remove the metal frame and PE boards from the seat before washing.

The stroller frame and other plastic/ metal parts can be wiped clean using mild soap and water. The wheels can be cleaned with a damp cloth and need to be dried completely with a soft towel or cloth.

Also, remember to store your stroller indoors, in a dry environment, to prolong its fabric. Check also regularly its parts and bring them only to an authorized dealer for repairs.

Warranty

UPPAbaby VISTA offers an EXTENDED WARRANTY of one year for a total of three years on all its strollers and select accessories (Bassinet, RumbleSeat, From Birth Kit, and PiggyBack). To receive the additional one-year warranty, you must register your product online within three months of purchase and provide a valid receipt from an authorized retailer.

The City Select LUX on the other hand, gives you a lifetime warranty for the frame and rest of the stroller 1 year.

Price

The UPPAbaby Vista V2 is quite a splurge item as its more expensive than the City Select LUX. Some people who really wants to have one, look for a 2nd hand one in Facebook groups and deal websites for it.

How To Fold The City Select vs Uppababy Vista

For this part, I think it’s just better to show you so watch how to fold the strollers below:

City Select LUX Double Stroller

UPPABABY VISTA V2

The Uppababy VISTA V2 can stand on its own when folded, which is quite convenient. It can also be folded with or without the Toddler Seat attached. It’s also a two hand fold type stroller.

The City Select LUX though, cannot stand on its own when folded. I’m imagining it’s a little bit of a hassle, especially if you have multiple children and you’re carrying shopping bags. You also need to fold this with 2 hands.

But the City Select LUX can fold with both 2 seats for an easier and more compact traveling.

No, you can’t. The Baby Jogger brand name might be misleading but it’s not a jogging stroller. But some parents have jogged with it and the stroller, according to them, was still fine. It’s still not recommended though as it’s not it’s a jogging stroller.

Is the UPPAbaby stroller worth the money?

Based on the dozens of articles I’ve read and the thousands of online reviews of happy parents, yes. Of course, it depends on your budget and what you really prioritize and if you can live without some of the features that the Uppababy Vista V2 offers.

It just ultimately depends on your family’s needs, especially if you see it as a worthwhile investment.

It depends on your family’s priorities.

If budget is not a problem and if you prefer a double stroller with a bigger storage basket, a 3-year warranty and with a bassinet that can be used as an overnight cot, I highly recommend the Uppababy Vista V2.
