Differences Between Honest vs Abby and Finn Diapers
Background
Honest is co-founded by a celebrity entrepreneur (Jessica Alba), which might have helped in building the popularity of the brand.
They have been in the business since 2011 and have branched out to a variety of products, such as bath products, wellness, and even makeup items.
Meanwhile, Abby & Finn came only into the diaper scene last 2018, and are founded by 2 non-celebrity families.
They might not be as popular nor as big as Honest but they’ve certainly been spreading some goodwill and positive PR in the US at least, by donating diapers for every subscription box they sell!
Also, Honest products are made in China while Abby & Finn’s are sourced in the US and Europe and are assembled in Mexico.
Subscription
Both Honest and Abby and Finn offer a subscription-based model, which is quite helpful, as you don’t want to run out of diapers, especially if you have a poopy little one!
Abby & Finn’s diaper bundle will get you:
- 4 packs of diapers (pieces will vary depending on size), 4 packs of wet wipes
- 4 packs of wet wipes
- 10% off on additional subscription items
While Honest will give you:
- 7 packs of diapers (diaper pieces vary depending on size)
- 4 packs of wet wipes
- 15% off on 8 additional selected items
- Free gift on 3rd shipment
Of course, Honest will cost more, but you do get more, which I think is a fair deal.
Sizes
Honest sizes start at Newborn (<10 lbs) up to Size 7 (41+ lbs), while Abby and Finn offer Size 1 (up to 12 lbs) up to Size 7 (38+ lbs).
Honest newborn diaper has also a belly button cutout that helps prevent irritating your baby’s healing umbilical cord.
Absorbency
Abby & Finn doesn’t really focus that much on their absorbency, based on what I’ve noticed in their marketing materials, and website.
So I’m guessing absorbency is not their strongest suit.
But some parents who’ve used Abby & Finn on their babies, they are mostly satisfied with it.
It doesn’t have a great level of absorbency but it’s more decent than other organic, non-toxic diapers!
Some parents have noted that their diapers feel very thick and some have even used them as overnight diapers.
Honest on the other hand seems to have put some effort into their absorbency quality.
At least that’s what I can tell from their marketing message!
They have this Quilted Bubble Liner, Quick Absorb Channel, Double Poo pocket, True Absorb technology, etc..
These are all clever, cute names or features that can absorb wetness and leakages while helping to prevent diaper rashes.
Wetness Indicator
All Honest diaper sizes have a wetness indicator while Abby & Finn doesn’t have any, even for its Size 1.
They’ve addressed this on their website. Basically the reason why they don’t have the wetness indicator is that they think it’s not eco-friendly and non-toxic.
Diaper Types
Honest offers 3 types of diapers: regular Daytime diapers, Overnights and Training Pants.
While Abby & Finn have only 1 diaper type. For now.
Distribution
Honest diapers are readily available in major online and brick-and-mortar stores. You can get them from Amazon, Target, Walmart, buybuyBaby, etc.
Abby & Finn is also available on the said online stores but they have less physical distribution channels, compared to Honest diapers.
Design
Honest diapers have more variety of prints, patterns, and designs, than Abby & Finn.
The former actually have seasonal designs, which if diaper design matters to you, then you’ll be very happy with what Honest has to offer.
I think it’s not only cute, but it’s also useful to have those designs.
If your baby cries during diaper changes, you can hand them an Honest diaper and I assumed they’d get distracted by its pretty patterns and prints.
Similarities of Abby & Finn vs Honest Disposable Diapers
Now let’s take a more detailed look at the similar features of the Abby and Finn vs Honest Disposable Diapers.
Ingredients
Both brands have basically the same marketing message – their diapers are non-toxic and have safe ingredients, even for newborns.
Honest diapers are made using TCF or totally chlorine-free processing, with a 100% plant-based backsheet.
It also has a sustainably harvested fluff pump from a sustainably managed forest in Europe.
They are pretty transparent about the ingredients they use, which are: Absorbent Bio-Core [Totally Chlorine-Free (TCF) Wood Pulp From Sustainably Managed Forests, Sodium Polyacrylate Containing Renewable Materials & Odor Inhibitors Including Citrus Extract & Liquid Chlorophyll], Outer Layer(Plant-Based PLA), Inner Layer (Polyethylene & Polypropylene), Leg/Waist System (Polymer Spandex & Polypropylene), Polyolefin Adhesives in the Seams & Joints, Super-Cute Design on Backsheet (Inks)
Their diapers are also free from Lotions, Latex, TBT, DBT, MBT, Chlorine Processing, Phthalates, Parabens, or Artificial Fragrances.
Abby & Finn’s diapers are basically the same.
They also use plant-based, eco-friendly materials in their diapers and they are also quite transparent about their ingredients, which include:
- TCF (Totally Chlorine Free) wood pulp from sustainably managed forests
- SAP (Super Absorbent Polymer) – Sodium Polyacrylate
- Topsheet – extra soft, 100% pp nonwoven
- Core Wrap, Leg Cuffs – 100% pp nonwoven
- Acquisition Layer – polyester fibers
- Backsheet – pp fibers and pe film for softness and liquid containment
- Leg, Waist, and Crotch Elastics – polyurethane
They also don’t have any harmful ingredients in their diaper, such as latex, fragrances, chlorine, heavy metals, lotions, allergens, and dyes.
Comfort
Both Abby and Finn and Honest diapers are hypoallergenic, gentle, soft diapers. So in theory, it’s not supposed to cause rashes on any baby’s skin.
But alas, all babies are different.
Some have more sensitive skin than others, so some parents have complained about Honest diapers causing some irritation on their baby’s skin.
There are fewer complaints about Abby & Finn.
But to be fair, Honest is so much more popular than the former. So it has both more positive and negative (unavoidable) reviews from parents, compared to Abby and Finn.
Honest though has some complaints about having a slight chemical smell, while I have yet to see that complaint on the Abby and Finn disposable diapers.
Security and Fit
Abby & Finn are quite upfront about the size of their diapers.
I’ve seen that pop-up on their website, saying that their diaper runs small compared to some brands!

Some other parents also noted that the diapers seem narrower and might be more suitable for babies who are in between sizes.
Others also noted that the Abby & Finn diapers stay on well and seem to have a thicker quality to them.
Honest diapers on the other hand, according to some parents, seem to be less bulky now and are thinner, compared to before.
They also tend to run small and slimmer which can make them a suitable diaper for a skinny baby.
Price
Both are considered premium diapers so they’re not that cheap and there’s not much of a price difference between them.

Is an Honest subscription worth it?
Honest subscription can be worth it IF it’s the only diaper that doesn’t cause any irritation to your baby and has a decent to great absorbency quality.

Yes, Abby and Finn’s diapers are safe. They don’t have any harmful substances in their diapers (not even a wetness indicator!) so you can be assured that they are very safe for your little ones.

I’d go with Honest.
Not because Abby and Finn have a less superior diaper.
I’m going with Honest first as it’s a more popular diaper. They almost have the same features and quality but Honest has more recent reviews, has a lot more recommendations and mentions online. Plus it’s been in the diaper business for quite some time.
However, if Honest diapers keeps giving my baby diaper rashes, of course I’d choose Abby & Finn.
So try both first and see which one suits your baby.
